Netflix Offline Streaming for Windows 10

Netflix has added support for offline viewing on Windows 10 PCs and tablets, which can come in handy while you are traveling. This feature only works for certain movies and TV shows and it also depends on your region. Some of the shows that can be downloaded include House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Narcos, and Stranger Things.

Today, Netflix is bringing offline viewing to Windows 10. The company is rolling out a new update to its Windows 10 app which brings the new feature, simply titled “Download & Go”. Download & Go works just like you would expect it to — there’s a tiny download button for almost all TV shows, movies and documentaries on Netflix and clicking on it will start downloading it to your Windows 10 device. Once downloaded, you can access it from the “My Downloads” section on the hamburger menu and watch it offline whenever you want.

Why this matters: Because the offline option was available to mobile users before, this isn’t entirely new. But its new availability on the larger screens available to notebooks and desktop PCs means that you won’t have to squint at your mobile phone to keep up with your favorite shows.

The update should be rolling out to all Windows 10 users through the Windows Store today, although it’s still unclear whether the Windows 10 Mobile or Xbox One versions of the app will be getting a similar update at this time.

As usual, the list of stuff you can save for your next flight skews pretty heavily toward Netflix’s own lineup, but that’s more broad than some would think. I, for instance, never expected to fall in love with the eminently addictive Terrace House. The assortment of non-Netflix originals is fairly healthy, too: there are plenty of BBC documentary series available (especially if you like animals), not to mention every episode of The Officeand My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

When you open the app, Netflix will show you a large splash screen that advertises the new “download and go” capability. Unfortunately, if you click the Find me something to download button, the Netflix app doesn’t currently display a list of downloadable titles; you’ll have to hunt them down yourself.
